Beautiful Places to visit in New England |
The fall foliage in the states, roughly speaking, starts as early as mid September and ends as late as mid November.
Traditionally, places such as New York State, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine in New England, as well as Wisconsin and Michigan in the Midwest experience the fall foliage first.
If you’re planning a late fall foliage vacation and are wondering what the best destinations in November are, here it is a list of some of the best places to see fall foliage:
Late October
Washington State
Located south of Tacoma and Seattle, Mt Rainier National Park is one of the best places to see fall foliage in Washington State. In fact, south of Mt Rainier Park, Paradise and Packwood are two other popular spots to see the fall colors.
In Paradise (located within Snoqualmie National Forest), you’ll find Narada Falls and Reflection Lakes where you can truly soak in the lovely scenery, and appreciate the color change. The trails along Reflection Lakes are especially spectacular in the morning, as they offer lovely lake reflections of the mountain. Packwood (located within Gifford Pinchot National Forest) is another excellent place to see the bursting and vibrant colors of the fall.
Early November
Arkansas
If you’re looking to enjoy a late fall foliage vacation, the state of Arkansas is probable one of the best places to travel in October in the US for leaf-peepers.
For instance, the majestic Ouachita Forest has many great spots for watching the leaves turning color. For me, one of the best places to see fall foliage within Ouachita National Forest is Little Missouri Falls recreational area, near Glenwood Arkansas.
Mississippi
North of Mississippi, Holly Springs National Forest is one of the most popular places to see the fall foliage in early November. One of the best spots within Holly Springs National Forest is the Wall Doxey State Park, which is centered on a lovely spring lake.
Apart from being a great spot for seeing the leaf color change, Wall Doxey State Park is just 30 miles of Memphis Tennessee.
Alabama
Leaf change color begins to show in the mountains of North Alabama also in early October, although colors will be at their peak in early November. The cities of Huntsville AL and Decatur AL are within a short distance of some of the best places to see fall foliage.

Georgia
The Chattahoochee National Forest, located north of Atlanta in Georgia, is one best places to see fall foliage. For instance, Brasstown Bald Visitor Center boasts an observation deck that offers great views to see the fall colors.
Driving along the Russell-Brasstown Byway is another way to experience the fall colors, and the best thing is that this scenic highway also offers plenty of historical landmarks to see as well as natural attractions such as cascading waterfalls and rocky cliffs. If you’re planning a camping trip in the Brasstown District during your fall foliage vacation, the area offers plenty of outdoor opportunities for backpacking, fishing and hiking.
