I personally think that there are so many mainstream destinations that are simply too crowded with tourists and receive way too much attention. Therefore, I’ve decided to create a list of top 10 cities to visit in the world which don’t get the credit and the spotlight they deserve.
To make it a little bit different to most top 10 lists, I’ve chosen relatively unknown cities from each geographical region to make my selection somewhat fair. Here it goes!
1. Dunedin
Dunedin New Zealand is located in southern New Zealand and it’s a great city home to stunning architecture, lots of unique wildlife and beautiful natural scenery.

2. St Augustine
St Augustine Florida is located along the east coast of the USA and it’s the oldest settlement in the states.
St Augustine FL boasts a lovely mix of new and colonial architecture, many historic sites, beautiful unspoiled beaches, many antique shops, art galleries and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like diving, sailing and biking.
3. Winnipeg
Winnipeg Canada is known for its city parks, and its winter lighting displays from late November to early January, which sees downtown Winnipeg beautifully lit up with Christmas light decorations.
Besides these, Winnipeg Manitoba has to be one of the most haunted cities in north America with places such as Saint Boniface Museum, Elmwood cemetery and the Delta Marsh Bird Observatory being reported sites for ghostly apparitions and spooky sounds.
4. Taipei
Taipei Taiwan is located on the northern tip of the island of Taiwan and it’s definitely one of the most under rated tourist destinations in Asia.
Taipei Taiwan is one of the top 10 cities to visit in the world and the city boasts beautiful Taoist temples that you can tour, and plenty of flea-markets and night-markets where you can haggle for a great bargain and sample absolutely tasty delicacies!
5. San Salvador
San Salvador is the capital city of one of the smallest countries in the world – El Salvador.
San Salvador is, without a doubt, one of the top 10 cities to visit in the world because of the amazing blend of attractions on offer..
San Salvador El Salvador boasts a lovely mix of modern and colonial buildings, Mayan archaeological sites, natural reserves and volcanoes (just outside of the city) where you can enjoy bird watching and hikes on top of a volcanic crater.
6. Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv Israel is another gem of destination that is overlooked by most travelers, and doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
Tel Aviv is a friendly city that boasts beautiful white sandy beach shores, a unique Mediterranean vibe, visually stunning buildings and a vibrant nightlife second to none.
7. Huelva
Huelva is located in the south of Spain near the border with Portugal and the famed Algarve region.
Huelva is one of the least known destinations in Spain, but it’s one of the top 10 cities to visit in the world, especially if you’re an outdoor’s enthusiast.
Huelva’s beaches are backed by forests and wildlife reserves of marshland and dunes where you can observe birdlife and explore deserted beaches.
8. Sassari Sardinia
The city of Sassari is located on the northern side of the island of Sardinia, and it’s another relatively unknown destination in southern Italy.
Sassari Sardinia is surrounded by a stunning rugged countryside where you can explore old Roman remains, and breathtaking beaches with crystal clear waters.
Sassari also boasts many restaurants where you can sample great cuisine, many beautiful landmarks to look at and museums where you can see interesting art and archeological exhibits on display.
9. Cochabamba
Cochabamba is located in the heart of Bolivia South America, and it’s a beautiful city known as the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ because of the spring-like weather all year round.

10. Surabaya Indonesia
Surabaya is one of Indonesia's largest cities and the capital of the province of East Java. Surabaya Indonesia has an impressive and unique blend of cultural influences that include Chinese, European and Arab influences.
Today, as you walk the streets of Surabaya, you can see this amazing blend of influences manifested mostly in the architecture which boasts Chinese-style mosques and European-style cathedrals.
