Interesting places to visit in Georgia |
Summer school holidays are just around the corner and the state of Georgia is indeed one of the top places to visit in the US.
There are so many great places to vacation in Georgia, so to narrow it a bit, we’ve rounded some nice suggestions where you can vacation with the family and kids in Georgia:
Helen
If you love mountain scenery, the town of Helen is without a doubt one of the best vacation spots in Georgia.
Helen is nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains and it's surrounded also by the Chattahoochee national forest so there are plenty of opportunities for outdoors activities such as taking trips to the beautiful Anna Ruby Falls and Dukes Creek Falls, as well as fishing and hiking in Unicoi State Park where you’ll also be able to rent a cabin at Unicoi Lodge.
Besides outdoor pursuits, you’ll be able to do lots of shopping and other cool activities such as:
-petting wild animals in the Black Forest Bear Park
-marvel at the German village and model railroad in Charlemagne’s Kingdom
-taking guided horseback tours along the Chattahoochee River
-tubing down the beautiful Chattahoochee River
Roswell
Perhaps, the best thing about Roswell is its close location to Atlanta (30 minutes drive), and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (around 10 minutes drive) where you’ll be able to do fishing, kayaking and tubing lazily down the Chattahoochee River.
Tybee Island
Top Beaches in Georgia |
Besides the beach and wildlife, Tybee Island is just 15 minutes drive from Savannah where you can do some shopping and take a tour ride on the Old Town Trolley to get a nice overview of Savannah.
Dahlonega
Dahlonega is also a short drive from the Chattahoochee national forest so there is always a great opportunity for a bit of an adventure outdoors doing:
-camping: Etowah River Campground is the nearest campground from Dahlonega, though there are many more tent and RV camp areas within the Chattahoochee national forest such as the Dockery Lake campground and Jenny's Creek Campground.
-kayaking: you can do plenty of water sports like kayaking and canoeing on the Etowah River without having to drive too far out of town.
-golfing: If you're a golfing enthusiast, the Nicklaus Golf Club is just around the corner.
-fishing: is very popular pastime from the town as there are many great creeks for trout fishing such as Cooper Creek, Noontootla Creek, and Jones Creek.
