2. Take a scenic train ride
As any seasoned traveler would tell you one of the best things to do in Eastern Europe is to hop on a train and explore the region's spectacular scenery and landscapes. Three of the most popular scenic railways in Eastern Europe are the Trans-Siberian Railway, the Septemvri/Dobriniste Railway, and the Belgrade/Bar Railway.

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the most popular and also the largest railways in the world running all the way from Russia to the Far East. One of the Trans-Siberian main routes is between the cities of Moscow and Vladivostok in Russia.

3. Go cruising
One of the coolest things to do in Eastern Europe during your vacation is booking a river cruise and boat tour for a bit of sightseeing. The main two rivers in Eastern Europe are the Vistula and the Danube rivers, though they’re also beautiful waterways and canals that you can ride along such as the Volga–Baltic Waterway in Russia.

Taking a day sightseeing tour on a boat is definitely the most popular way to explore the sights without spending a lot. The city of Budapest Hungary is probably one of the best place to enjoy a sightseeing tour.
You can take inexpensive boat tours along Budapest Danube river with tour companies such as “Legenda” which offer a sightseeing and dinner cruises for around $20 (15 Euros).
4. Hit the slopes
If you’re traveling this winter, one of the best things to do in Eastern Europe is spending a few days skiing. Eastern Europe is one of the most affordable places to go for a ski vacation since the region boasts plenty of skiing possibilities.
The Carpathians region is one of the most popular skiing places to go for beginner/intermediate levels, particularly in the High and Low Tatras. There, you’ll find the ski resorts of Jasna and Park Snow which are two of the best skiing resorts in Slovakia.
The ski resorts of Poiana Brasov in Romania, as well as Bansko and Borovets in Bulgaria are other cheap skiing vacation spots in Europe where you’ll find good slopes and inexpensive accommodation.
