A couple of years ago, we came with two lists - "Top 25 places to visit in the US" and "Top Tourist attractions in the US". This time around we have decided to come with yet another top list but this time we want to highlight what we think are the absolute 8 best attractions in the United States. Hope you agree with our choices!
1) Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral FL
The Kennedy Space Center is a national treasure and it’s surely one of the coolest places to go in the US for an experience of the lifetime. In our view, the Kennedy Space Center is simply the best space center in the country (better than the space centers in Houston and Huntsville!).
At the Kennedy Space Center, you won’t only get to photograph a space shuttle and see what astronaut suits look like in the “flesh” but also learn all about the space program and famous astronauts. Also, if you’re lucky you’ll get to see rockets being launched into space!
2) Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Springfield IL
The Abraham Lincoln Museum is one of the most beloved museums in the United States and one of the nicest places to take the family out for an educational yet enjoyable day out. The museum boasts a cool area for kids called “Mrs. Lincoln's Attic” where kids can dress up and play with toys from the Lincoln’s era.
As a history buff, you’ll learn some interesting things about Abraham Lincoln’s life and see great exhibits such as the replica of the log cabin where Abraham Lincoln grew up.
3) Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Carlsbad NM
Carlsbad Caverns is without a doubt, one of the absolute 8 best attractions to see in the US, yet it’s surprisingly one of the most underrated natural attractions in the US. If you ask us, Carlsbad Caverns are right up there with the likes of the Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon!
The walk down to the entrance to the caverns is simply stunning, while the main cave called the Big Room could actually accommodate more than ten football fields. In all, Carlsbad Caverns offer one of the best cave tours experiences in the US and the caves are so roomy that even if you suffer from claustrophobia you won’t even feel it a tiny bit!
4) Mount Rushmore, Keystone SD
Some people consider a visit to Mt Rushmore one of the most overrated things to do as a tourist but as a first time visitor there, we can guarantee that Mt Rushmore will exceed all your preconceived expectations!
Mount Rushmore is definitely much more beautiful and more amazing when seen up close…you’ll especially notice the high quality detail of the presidents faces and wonder how such a majestic creation could have been carved on the side of a mountain!
5) Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY
As far as world-class museums is concerned, the Corning Museum of Glass should definitely rank in the top five as it’s really and truly a gem of a place! The state of New York can count themselves lucky to have such a marvelous museum where the most gorgeous creations of glass can be seen.
You can easily spend 2-3 hours there marveling at wonderful Tiffany stained glass works and fine Chihuly glass collections, as well as seeing free live glassblowing demonstrations.
6) Mammoth Caves National Park, KY
Mammoth Caves is another natural cave worth mentioning on the list of absolute 8 best attractions to see in the US. Mammoth Caves National Park may not be the biggest or the grandest national parks of them all but the sheer magnificence of the cave will certainly boggle your mind!
The caves are super huge with seriously long tunnels (over 3 miles) that take a good few hours to walk. As you walk along the tunnels and tight passages, you’ll feel at times as if you were on a fantasy world, which is one of the reasons that make a visit to Mammoth Caves so extraordinary.
7) Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, HI
Don’t you ever get the impression that Hawaii seems to often get overlooked and not mentioned at all? Naturally, on our list of absolute 8 best attractions to see in the US, we couldn’t miss adding Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which is yet again another national park!
However, Volcanoes National Park isn’t like the other national parks on the mainland which is why its huge appeal. The lava fields, steam vents and the Sulfur Banks are some of the things that make Volcanoes National Park a very unique place to be. There’s also an stunning overlook called Steaming Bluff that offers dramatic views of the current eruption in Halema'uma'u Crater.
8) Boston, MA
The city of Boston is an attraction all of its own and in a league of its own, which is why Boston is one of the top cities on the east coast every tourist should visit during their travels in the United States. Boston is one of the most historic cities in the US and it’s absolutely filled with wonderful attractions.
The Boston Navy Shipyard, Beacon Hill, Boston Common, the Paul Revere House, Copley Square, Newbury Street and Boston Public Garden (many of these you can see on a Freedom Trail tour) are some of the must see places in Boston, although you can enjoy fun boat tours of the beautiful Boston Harbor aboard the city’s famous duck boats!
