Stuff tourists do in Denmark for fun

Still working out your itinerary of Denmark?

Check out the post below for some cool ideas on stuff tourists do in Denmark for fun besides visiting Copenhagen's tourist attractions:

Knuthenborg Safari Park

If you’re looking for cool things to do outdoors to add to your itinerary, a visit to Knuthenborg Safari Park is one of the coolest things you can do in Denmark with the family. You can get real close to the animals there and pet the lamas, camels, giraffes, goats, donkeys, zebras, etc. Driving with your own car is a good way to spend a day there, though if it’s a rental car you may want to think twice about driving into the park.

Instead, you could get to the park by train or bus, which takes about 2 hours from Copenhagen and would be a safer bet than using car hire. By the way, if you're based in Maribo the safari park is located in the island of Lolland, which about 10 minutes drive.

Take a canal tour in Copenhagen

No visit to Copenhagen would be complete without taking a ride along Copenhagen’s canals and harbor. A canal tour is actually one of the best ways to get around city and take photos of Copenhagen’s main sights such as Christiansborg Palace and the Little Mermaid Statue.

DFDS Canal Tours is one of the main operators there offering canal tours from either Gammel Strand or Nyhavn. DFDS offers dinner and jazz cruises, as well as sightseeing tours (roughly 6 Euros) on a waterbus, which allow you to get on and off and various points of the city. You can also book canal tours from Gammel Strand through “Copenhagen Tours” for around 9 euros.

Spend the day in Sweden

Yes, you heard right! Sweden is a stone throw from Denmark and visiting Sweden for the day is another of the stuff tourists do in Denmark for fun. There are few ways to go about visiting Sweden, though the train from Copenhagen station to Malmo station is the quickest and costs roughly 20 Euros for a round trip ticket.

You can also take the ferry with Scald Lines to Sweden departing from either Helsingor to Helsingborg (Sweden), or from Frederikshavn to Gothenburg (Sweden).

If you’re renting a car in Copenhagen, you can also drive to Malmo along the Orensund Bridge. There is a toll charge of 40 euros for driving through the bridge, though it’s worth it since you get amazing ocean views of the Orensund strait.

While in Malmo for the day, be sure to visit the Turning Torso (tallest building in Sweden), sample Malmo’s renowned falafels, and visit St. Petri Cathedral (oldest church in the city).

If you're going to Gothenburg for the day, Liseberg is the top attraction...it is one of the most stunning theme parks in Europe.

Visit Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is the biggest summer attraction in Copenhagen and it’s one of the must see places in Denmark hands down! Tivoli gets so many rave reviews and if you’re traveling to Copenhagen in the summer you simply cannot give this place a miss!

When you're there, you’ll understand why Tivoli is so popular...the atmosphere inside the park is amazing with live concerts and stunning gardens everywhere.

Experience Denmark’s countryside

There is no better way to get to know the “real” Denmark than spending time at a farm in the countryside picking up fruits and vegetables and seeing how dairies are made the old-fashioned way.

Denmark is home to many open farms throughout the country that you can visit for the day and mingle with the local Danish farmers. While you’re driving through the beautiful western side of Denmark’s Jutland, you’ll also encounter roadside vendors during the summer selling homemade foods and other cool stuff.

Explore north Jutland

A trip to Denmark wouldn’t be quite the same without exploring the northern part of Jutland. Both the west and east coasts of north Jutland are home to beautiful beach areas and beach towns such as Bisnap Beach, Nymindegab Strand and Skagen where you can do some swimming and surfing and windsurfing.

As far as natural attractions, north Jutland is home to striking sand dunes such as the ones found in Rubjerg Knude, and spectacular cliff walls such as Hanklit Cliffs in the island of Mors and Bulbjerg cliff, which is the only bird cliff in Jutland.
