What to do in Cape Town if Your Budget is over?

South Africa is one destination that everyone should visit at least once in their life. Unfortunately, as with many holidays, the costs can quickly mount and this can become an issue. Some would say that exploring the country’s most beautiful places of interest and cities is expensive. Well, they’re wrong! Let’s not forget that sightseeing is free. There are many other things to do which don’t require spending a fortune; here are some of the best:

Sightseeing via public transport

The red bus offer sightseeing tours around the city and has special offers on the tickets. Two children can ride for free with a paying adult on any school holiday or weekend. The cable car to Table Mountain is not something that the locals do very often. As with many places, people who live there become very accustomed to the sights. It is, however a fantastic view and currently has the same offer for children to go free as the red bus.

It is also possible to take the train to Simonstown and admire the False Bay coastline. The best tickets are those which allow you to jump on and off the train at will. This way you will be able to see any part of the coast you like and explore to your heart’s content.

Hiking doesn’t cost a thing

There are hundreds of hiking trails across Cape Town and the majority of them are free of charge. The treks to Lion’s Head or Table Mountain are probably the best known; and are always popular. A slightly more peaceful option, still with stunning views is the Pipe Track. This path starts at the foot of Table Mountain and offers possible the best views of Camps Bay and the Atlantic seaboard. Alternatively you can hike through fairytale forests in Newlands; there are a variety of trails suitably for most people.

Tanning on the beach

It doesn’t matter where you holiday in the world you can guarantee a day at the beach will be fun for you and all the family. Camps Bay and Clifton are full of people and tend to be a little more upmarket. For those who prefer it a little quieter or who would like to swim without freezing then the beaches at Muizenberg and Kalk Bay are worth checking out. Just keep one ear out for the shark alarm!

Green Point Urban Park

Green Point Urban Park is good for children of any age and offers an exciting yet educational day out. There are large pieces of grass for burning off energy and rustic gyms for showing off your strength or fitness. The park also has a biodiversity section which will allow you and your children to learn more about botany and the environment.

Sea Point Promenade

The Sea Point Promenade is much more than just a walk along the coast. There are more play parks and outdoor gyms alongside this path and there are several unique artworks. Your camera will be essential on this stroll.

Company Gardens

Company Gardens are an attraction is in the heart of the city and is the perfect place to witness the natural beauty of the area whilst having some fun. It is also an ideal place to escape the buzz of the city; even if just for an hour. You can even feed the squirrels, geese and pigeons.

Imhoff Farm

Imhoff Farm offers something for everyone. It has camel riding and face painting, a petting zoo and a snake park. There are also some quaint shops and a delightful choice of restaurants. It is an excellent spot for travelers with kids, and it won’t leave you penniless either.

There are many affordable places to eat in South Africa which will provide excellent food; it may be difficult to decide which to try first. Two good ones for c
hildren are Eden on The Bay and Franky’s Diner. The diner offers a classic 50’s American approach to food whilst Eden Bay offers tasty food with the best view of Table Mountain in the entire city. Just because your budget is almost over it doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do in Cape Town; because there are a wealth of great activities you can try out without spending a lot of money.
