Barcelona; Spain
Barcelona is a beautiful city sat on the shores of the Mediterranean and encompassing culture, art and an excellent nightlife! You may also be surprised to learn that there are plenty of bargains to be had when wandering around the boutique shops and designer names. It is possible to eat a filling, three course lunch in almost any restaurant for just $11; wash it down with a $2 beer or even a $10 bottle of Cava! The city also offers some fantastic architectural examples of Gaudi’s work and stunning views; both across the city and the beach.
Thrace Region; Turkey
This region runs from Istanbul, along the North west coast and is sandwiched between the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. It is culturally very different from the better known East side of Turkey. Here you will be able to sample the local wine; made the same way for the last thousand years. It is believed that the first vine here were the result of a disagreement between Zeus, his wife and the goddess Semele. The vineyards cover thousands of acres of land and you can tour them whilst sampling the delights they offer. Then, return to a luxury, yet surprisingly reasonably priced hotel to unwind.
Dubrovnik; Croatia
This impressive city sits on the edge of the Adriatic Sea and offers some of the most stunning beaches in the world. Even better, you can catch a ferry to Brac, a small island with some of the best beaches in Europe. There are plenty of shops to explore and the prices are so good you’ll need an extra suitcase for your return trip. There is even a free indoor playground inside the shopping centre in Split!
The country joined the European Union in 2007 but has taken several years to become a desirable, known destination. In fact, it has experienced a boom with the Black Sea resorts becoming very popular destinations. They offer all the beauty of the Spanish beaches at a fraction of the price. It is possible to stay in a luxury hotel, sample the local food and wine and take in both the history and culture of this beautiful country; all for less than $20 per day!
The beaches offer a chance to enjoy some swimming, sunbathing or participate in any number of activities. Alternatively you can experience Sofia; the second oldest city in Europe. This is a place full of culture, museums and plenty of shops; something for everyone!
Paris
No romantic city list would be complete without mentioning Paris, possibly the most romantic city in the world. Choose yourself a world class hotel then enjoy some of the finest cuisine in the world, washed down with a glass of red wine. When you are not visiting the world famous sights you can take time to enjoy watching people whilst sitting at one of the many street cafes.
Lisbon, Portugal
This is a city which embraces and reflects the Europe of yesteryear. The streets are narrow and framed by limestone buildings with the beautiful St George Castle high on the skyline. The city sits on top of seven hills and offers a charming, romantic venue where there is always something new to discover.
Budapest; Hungary
This bustling, vibrant city is surprisingly cheap to live in and offers some cultural delights. There are memorials and museums all across the city which all focus is on the history of Budapest, particularly the effects of the Second World War. It is possible to live comfortably there on just $55 per week; this will give you an opportunity to enjoy the thriving music scene and visit the many ruined pubs.
Whilst here you can also experience the thermal spas for which the city has become famous; you can even indulge in a variety of spa treatments for around $10.
Once city live has become too much for you, simply hop on the train and head for the beautiful Hungarian countryside. Lake Balaton is a short train ride away and a truly stunning place to visit.
